The Surrey Federation
of Young Farmers Clubs (SFYFC) is part of The National Federation of Young
Farmers Clubs (NFYFC) that has approx 28,000 members in some 900 Young Farmers'
Clubs (YFCs). SFYFC currently has 10 clubs located throughout the County,
with Junior clubs for younger members (10-15s) and Senior clubs for the
16-26s.
What are YFCs? YFCs are for young people who want to socialise with people of the same age, learn, achieve and have fun in the countryside (so you do not need to be a farmer to be a Young Farmer!) Each club offers a wide programme of activities like sports, crafts, survival, learning new skills, competitions, public speaking, drama etc and works to meet the interests and needs of all its members. Club activities are complimented by a County activities programme which includes, competition days, residential training weekends and many social events. For senior members there are further opportunities, like Leadership Development training and international travel programmes, run by the NFYFC.
The clubs, like the County Federation, operate within a democratic committee structure, which provides opportunities for members to take on roles of responsibility, and be involved in decision-making within their club. At AGMs members are elected to stand as Club Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer etc and are supported in these roles through training and leader guidance. For senior members these opportunities extend to County, Area and National officer roles. Parents' involvement Parents are encouraged to be involved in YFCs and may be called upon for help in providing transport, assisting at events, giving talks/running club nights etc. Parents may also become 'Advisory Members' at clubs, which involves a more formal commitment to support the club. Advisory members often end up extending their own social lives and having as much fun as the members.
SFYFC as a provider of Youth Services in Surrey SFYFC is a recognised provider of youth services in Surrey and is supported
financially by Surrey County Council. SFYFC takes seriously its responsibilities
to young people and has formally adopted policies
in place to ensure the safety and well being of its members. Police checks
are carried out on all staff and leaders, and all members are insured
during YFC activities. |
